We all know that visiting the dentist is one of the best ways to make sure that your teeth stay healthy. It is however our responsibility to make sure we keep our mouth as healthy as possible in between the times we visit the professional. It can also save us money if we only need to go for a simple check up each time we visit the dental practice.
Here are some simple ways we can all keep our teeth happy and healthy:
Twice A Day
You should be brushing your teeth, at the very least, twice a day. Make sure you brush after meals and not before them. Dentist advise a toothbrush that has a small head so you reach your back teeth easily. Choose soft bristles which will be more gentle on your gums.
Fluoridated Toothpaste will help to strengthen your enamel and it also decreases the chance of tooth decay.
Don’t rush when it comes to brushing your teeth. Brushing your teeth should take around two or three minutes to make sure you do the job properly.
If you floss your teeth daily you will notice your dental hygiene will greatly improve, plus your dentist will be very happy too. Make sure you do it correctly – slowly, gently, with a saw like motion.
Cut Down On Acidic Drinks
Drinks such as sodas, fruit juices and cordials should be consumed rarely. The acid will make the material of the tooth soft and also eat away at the tooth enamel, this all leads to cavities which no one wants. In some cases people who drink too much of these drinks will see their teeth disappear all the way down to the gum.
Teeth Are For Chewing
Your teeth should only be used to chew food and nothing else. If you think it’s a good and quick idea to bite nuts, open bottles and rip bags open, then think again. Doing any of those things will increase the chance of you being left with a chip on your tooth or even breaking it completely.
To make sure you keep your teeth in great condition then I recommend that you contact your Exeter dentist and book an appointment.
